Sur le Chemin de l’Ecole

The French association Sur le Chemin de l’Ecole (meaning “On the Way to School”) was established following the release of a documentary film (“Sur le Chemin de l’école” – 2013) which highlighted the challenges faced by some children in accessing education. In countries such as Morocco, Argentina, India, and Kenya, schools can be located far from where children live and their way to school can be a daily adventure.

The association’s primary objectives after its creation, were:

  • create scholarships for the children featured in the documentary so they could pursue their complete schooling
  • help these children’s communities to encourage and give access to education to most children

Thanks to this initiative, over a hundred scholarships have been established, allowing children with aspirations for a better future to access education.

After the film, a series of documentaries was produced to narrate the stories of children who cross mountains and deserts to attend school. This was an inspiring revelation for French pupils who are fortunate enough to have easy access to education. Therefore the association’s activities naturally extended to raising awareness among French schools, through screenings and debates.
